Once this delivery has been requested, there will be communication with the deliverer to discuss which of the below workshops are of interest.
All Ramadan Awareness and Rulings workshops must be taken and delivered no later than Wednesday 26th February 2025.
All other workshops can be taken throughout the year at any time, however during the period of Thursday 27th February 2025 – Wednesday 2nd April 2025 workshops will only be delivered online.
Workshop 1: Ramadaan Awareness and Rulings
This workshop explains what fasting is and what it means to Muslims around the world. It explores the rulings such as timings, what is allowed or not allowed during fasts, age of fasting and exemptions
It helps clubs prepare for training routines and as well as future performance planning. It also provides information for non-Muslim staff to understand their Muslim colleagues’ ritual of fasting, which is useful given that Ramadaan will coincide with the English footballing season for another 25 years.
Workshop 2: Introduction to Islam and Cultural Awareness
This workshop introduces the fundamental beliefs of the Muslim faith which includes the founding pillars and their application within a Muslim’s life. It also covers topics such as history and background on Islam, Muslim contributions to the world and current demographics of Muslims in the UK and globally. It is designed to explain the culture adopted by the average Muslim of today, in carrying out their duty in a Non-Muslim majority country. Participating in this workshop will allow the participants to appreciate the roots of the religion and how it has shaped and contributed to the world, in many aspects of day-to-day life.
Workshop 3: Prayer Guidance
This workshop help understand Muslim prayer, requirements, rulings and how a club may support and facilitate this for Muslim staff and academy players. Topics such as prayer space, ablution area will be a feature to help in ensuring that these spaces and areas are available or considered within club facilities. As part of this workshop, there will be an offer of ongoing support and advice in setting up a prayer space.
Workshop 4: Halal Dietary Requirements and Guidance
This workshop is important for the availability of Halal food for Muslims is generally seen as a warm and welcoming gesture at any venue. It also indicates that the workplace has made an effort to provide an inclusive space. MCIS educate on what Halal is and what it is not i.e. diet, preparing Halal food with non-Halal foods, including contamination.
Workshop 5: Host Families
Many players who have relocated for football purposes will be placed with host families, with Muslim players finding it difficult to adapt and adjust due to a variety of reasons such as food, lifestyle, cultural and religious understanding, pets, religious festivals and rituals. To support the club in selecting the most suited Muslim host families, MCIS has devised a workshop to educate upon such issues.
